The familiar saying: “You never get a second chance to make a first impression” is a key point in Web Design.
The very first impression your website has on a visitor can be the determining factor if that user stays or not. Whether you’re providing a service, a product, a review or a blog, once a user navigates to your site, the overall design or first impression will affect your customer’s judgement of the quality of your site or product.
Web Design is not only a business, it’s an art. And it can be crucial to the success of any online business and web presence. It takes experience, technical skills and knowledge of the effects that certain criteria have on us human beings. Colors and shapes affect our attitude and mood. For example, we have learned through association that the color red means stop. It’s an action color. While blue is more calming and sometimes associated with sadness.
Color, spacing, lines, background, header, footer etc. are all individual pieces to a whole. The picture on the left was an assignment from my Graphic Design course. We had to design a picture to show movement using only circles, lines and triangles. Although the styling is different, these same principles will be used to develop and design your site.
Functionality is of major importance. When a link is clicked your customer expects to arrive at the proper destination. There is no Internet Law that states: blue words that are underlined must be a link! But it is a common practice and when not adhered to it can cause confusion for your customers.
When I design your website, all this information and more will be utilized to make that first impression an everlasting one.
